Young teens, ages 13-15, may apply for Teen Team in the spring. We recommend this as a first volunteer opportunity for youth interested in the library. The library has partnered with local schools to create student-authored book reviews. However, home schooled students can also take part in the program. “This program provides the youth in our community with an opportunity for safe and meaningful volunteer experiences,” said Corrie Brown, Sylvan Lake Municipal Library Programmer.
The Library is very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers who help us create a more educated community. The Friends of the Pend Oreille County Library District is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established to support our local libraries. Expect a busy staff and sometimes unspoken, but always heartfelt thanks for your commitment to your community. The library accepts Teen Volunteers beginning with the summer after 5th grade, ending with the summer after 12th grade, and everything in between! As a Teen Volunteer, you can earn service hours to fulfill school and organizational requirements, have fines forgiven from your library account, and gives you the chance to give back to your community. Yes, volunteers need to commit to a regular, weekly schedule for a minimum of 6 months. Due to the time involved in bringing in new volunteers, as well as the cost associated with background checks for volunteers, the library only allows volunteers to begin when they have committed to a schedule and a minimum length of volunteer service. Volunteering at EPL is a life-enriching, rewarding experience, because supporting EPL supports the community we all share.
